You're going to want to keep your eyes on your YouTube channel's email. YouTube announced that they are introducing channel handles to make the shorts experience closer to that of competitors. Here is everything you need to know.

  1. You will want to make sure you get your artist name before someone else snags it. Having the same username on all your social profiles will make you easy to find, but it's also an easy way for fans to hold your handle hostage if you're not careful to grab it first
  2. Unlike channel names, which can include multiples, handles will be unique. No two people can have the same handle, a sharp departure from YouTube's previous system
  3. Access to creating a handle will be rolled out based on page size. Large and established accounts will get priority.
  4. Keep your eyes open for an email from youtube letting you know when you can get yours. You will want to act fast when you see it
  5. If you already have a custom youtube URL, your handle is reserved already
