YouTube Provides Artists with New Analytics

Heres some news that should surprise nobody, Shorts are driving listenership.

Here's everything you need to know:


  1. YouTube's 'Analytics for Artists' now includes Total Reach metrics from fan-uploaded Shorts, offering a comprehensive snapshot of an artist's audience on the platform.
  2. Fan-created Shorts increased the average artist's audience by over 80% in January 2023.
  3. Artists active on Shorts saw more than 50% of their new channel subscribers coming directly from their Shorts posts on average.

For anyone already familiar with the likes of TikTok's and Instagram Reels, it should come as no surprise that short form video has become the modern artists best friend. But even then, its not often that we see these companies releasing such broad metrics. If you still aren't utilizing short form video, this is yet another glaring sign that you should be. And if you are already on TikTok or Reels, consider reposting your videos to Shorts, its easy to do and you have nothing to loose doing so.

As far as tools for artists go, Youtube Analytics for Artists is yet another music marketing tool in the vein of Spotify for Artists. It can provide you with insights to where your audience comes from, what they're listening to most, and how they're finding you. The biggest innovation here is that for the first time, artists will be able to know exactly how short form videos are impacting their growth as an artists.
